She is known for her innovative ideas such as recycling plastic bags to create amazing totes and wallets. This week at BCAL, everyone had a blast painting owls and recycling old wooden boxes. They used their imagination and creative ideas to make something appealing to them. A memory box was created with the old wooden boxes which can be used to keep unforgettable moments and pictures. Students designed their own ceramic owls with a splash of color, taking home an original Diana Gonzalez keepsake .

In 2005, BCCP created the Brooklyn College Art Lab, an interactive, educational, and recreational space on the college campus. Envisioned as the hub of our network of sites, staff, and students, BCAL is one of BCCP’s most successful and innovative programs.

Each day, youth from across our program sites come to BCAL to participate in its full-scale after-school programming, and to take advantage of BCAL’s youth-centered activities and resources.

On a visit to BCAL, you are likely to find youth producing digital music in the professional music studio, while others learn how to play live instruments and perform their original songs. Students can learn how to cook healthy food options with our culinary chef, edit videos in the Mac lab, or play basketball games on the indoor court.

In BCAL’s College Access room, youth can take part in workshops on financial aid, finding the right scholarships and get the help they need to fill out college applications led by the Director of College Access.
